R.I.P. Paradise's Alexandra Rogue 1992-2010

Rogue has been a member of our family since I was in the sixth grade. Yes, the sixth grade. From her puppy days, proudly prancing around with her full-length cocker spaniel coat, to her older days where she developed a real distaste for grooming and preferred to be slightly stinky, she has seen many changes in our family and been a companion to us all. We all have so many wonderful memories that include her. My brother, sister and I often affectionately refer to her as "sister" instead of "Rogue."

After many health complications over the past year, Jerad and Mom had to make a tough decision yesterday.

Rogue, you will never be forgotten or replaced in our hearts. Please be in prayer for my mom as she adjusts to life without her sweet pup.

KIDS Center Walk and Roll Fundraiser

I am posting this to ask for your help. I work closely with an amazing nonprofit here in town that serves kids with disabilities. I've had the chance to spend time around these kids at events watching them do the every day work to push past their limits and discover their potential. The Center does great work, but needs your help because they turn no child away. In these tight times, that spirit of helping everyone means more now than ever. But they can only stay true to this vow with help from people like you.

I am raising money for the Center's WALK & ROLL for Kids event this May. I'd love for you to join me in supporting the Center. As I drove away from the Parks' beautiful home in Taylorsville, I was struck by the overwhelming feeling of how lucky I am. I get to share in some of the most intimate, joyful moments in the lives of others. It is left up to me to record the beauty of newborn life. My images will forever ignite memories of soft skin, sweet smells and gentle coo's. This is a time that passes in the blink of an eye but we hold on to for a lifetime. I am so humbled that I am trusted to create these images.

Kim and Darrin are truly one of the sweetest couples I have met. Their love for each other, as well as for their family and friends was very visible on their wedding day. They had a beautifully elegant ceremony in the Waterford Room at the Galt House and their reception was at The Rivue.

Laura and Steve are friends of ours and members of our church. They decided on a very simple ceremony at the Main Post Chapel at Ft. Knox, then a luncheon following the ceremony at Bravo's. It was a beautiful, very intimate day that I am glad I could be a part of.

Tara and Michael were married on February 20th at the Speed Art Museum. It was the first time I shot there and it was wonderful! The venue really made for an elegant evening. The bride and groom were both cool as cucumbers- seriously, if there was any nervousness, I couldn't detect it. On my own wedding day I thought I might pass out walking down the aisle. Way to go for not doing that, Mr & Mrs. Durnil!

I love shooting newborn sessions. They are so sweet and delicate. Although I love being around the itty-bitty babies, what I love even more is that I get to capture them in beautiful photos, so those special little moments won't be forgotten. After having one of my own, I now realize how quickly they grow. You blink an eye and your itty-bitty baby is pulling up on furniture and trying to walk! Ok, my itty-bitty baby is pulling up on furniture and trying to walk. Maybe yours will be doing something else. The point is DON'T BLINK!

The weather was so nice for baby Emma's 6 month photo session that we went outside and she even got to put her little toes in the grass. She seemed to really like it! She is a really sweet little girl who obviously adores her momma and daddy.

p.s. I thought I'd seen parents do just about everything to get their little ones to smile-- but Emma's daddy took the cake. He barked like a really big, ferocious dog. I mean really, really big ferocious dog. Emma thinks it's hysterical!

To all of my loyal blog readers: Please forgive me!! I have been so behind on blogging lately! Seriously, I have been busier now than I have ever been- juggling the responsibilities of new mommy-hood, plus moving, and running a business. I am getting the hang of juggling it all- slowly, but surely.

Trina and Shaun, the parents of Baby Hailey, are now preparing for the fast-approaching arrival of baby #2! Much to their excitement, this little bundle of joy is a boy. Although we aren't really sure if Hailey understands what is happening, she is more than happy to share her plastic letters with the baby (she offers them to her mama's belly) and she doesn't mind kissing mama's belly, either. They are such a sweet family! I am so lucky to have them as clients and friends.

Really Cool Senior Portrait Session

I shot this session at a seemingly odd location-- JR Aviation at Clark Co. Airport in Indiana. This is one of the most personal and unique senior sessions I've shot to date. Although Max is only a senior in high school, he already knows he wants to be a helicopter pilot and he is very passionate about it. So, of course, he wanted to incorporate his passion into his photos. We also shot some with his car. Enjoy!

A quiet atmosphere is one of the biggest sighs of relief for a new mother. Preparing to adapt to the world of parenting is an exciting yet scary thing for most mom's-to-be. We’ve recently spoke with Vicky Sanders, Owner/Certified Lactation Consultant of Babyology, formerly known as The Nursing Station. Vicky informed us of their goals to help mothers become more familiarized with the process of breast feeding and motherhood. It is a known fact that breastfeeding is natural form nutrition for a newborn, and possibly one of the smartest choices a mother can make for her baby. Although we were informed that breastfeeding is not always a mother’s first choice. Vicky goes on to explain that within our culture, breastfeeding is seen as one of the scarier things about becoming a mother, simply because as American women most of us have never seen anyone breastfeed. She goes on to explain that learning to breastfeed is simply that, it’s a learning process for both you and your baby. It’s not always simple but it’s never impossible when it comes to giving the baby the best nutrition.

Babyology is simply as the name states. This little shop is all about babies. Located at 1009 B Dupont Square, its soothing atmosphere is filled with information on becoming a mother for the first time, or even the third. There is always a smiling face that welcomes you as you enter. Babyology offers a variety of prenatal classes. From ‘Return to Work’ classes to Individual Prenatal Breastfeeding appointments, their staff is there for you. They even offer free weight checks for your newborn! They are here to answer any questions you may have about your baby or your breastfeeding experience, and they’re open 6 days a week for your convenience.

Within their staff there are three International Board Certified Lactation Consultants which include Vicky, Angie, and Melissa. They also have a Certified Lactation Educator, Leigh Ann. These lovely women are very passionate about helping other women and passing on helpful information that got them through motherhood. Babyology is looking to expand their store hours as well as offer more prenatal classes to the public. They are currently planning to relocate in early February, to 3934 Dutchmans Lane, between Josephs Salon and Penn Station, with hopes that this location would be a lot easier to access for customers.

Babyology offers more than just classes and moral support; they offer some of the best products for you and your baby. Babyology is a ‘One Stop Shop.’ Their nursing bras are their best sellers, but their help and honesty is worth so much more!

Whew! This is the last post of the evening. Sorry I have been behind on my blogging, but I have been insanely busy with tons of portrait sessions. A certain cute, little 5 month old baby seems to be consuming lots of my time too!

Tara and Michael are such a sweet, funny couple. I had the pleasure of shooting engagements for them last week and I am really looking forward to their February wedding. Tara is going to be a stunning bride with those beautiful eyes and that long, wavy hair! I suppose Michael will look nice too, but I am really looking forward to seeing Tara as a bride! haha:)

Today I would just like to take a moment to thank those brave men and women who have served our country. Their sacrifices to defend this nation are great, some paying the ultimate price. Those who are lucky enough to return home to U.S. soil are faced with dealing with the trauma of war. I continue to pray for those who are so deeply affected and thank you so much for your bravery. Without you, our country could not continue to be the greatest nation on this earth.

I would especially like to thank my brother, Jerad, who served in Afghanistan in 2008-2009. He put his education on hold and sacrificed a year of his life to serve. Coming home, he has had to deal with short term memory loss related to multiple head injuries in the line of duty. He continues to heal from the traumatic experiences he has endured. Thank you, Jerad, for your service to our country. I love you very much and appreciate your bravery.

The first few images below were taken of Jerad at Cave Hill Cemetery in the Soldier Burial Ground, right before his deployment to Afghanistan. The others were taken around the Bardstown Road area in the Highlands, where we made a pit-stop at O'Sheas and I bought him one of my favorites- a Bourbon Barrel Stout.

Kim and Darin are getting married Easter weekend at the Galt House. They really wanted their engagement session to be Louisville-themed, as many of their guests will be coming from out of town, and they want to celebrate our wonderful city in the art work on their save-the-dates. So we headed down to the Galt House and shot in a few locations within the hotel. Of course, we also had to take advantage of the docked Belle of Louisville and The Belvedere. Kim and Darin are both a little camera shy, but they warmed up so quickly and we had a lot of fun together. I love it when I can encourage couples to forget about the camera, focus on each other and have fun. The results are so amazing. Check them out! Aren't they so sweet?! I can't wait for their wedding!

Lexi and Russ are Hitched!

Wow! What an amazing wedding day it was for Lexi and Russ. They were married on October 3rd; with a little chill in the air and beautiful skies, it was the perfect fall wedding. The wedding was an intimate gathering of family and friends that really reflected their style- simple and beautiful. I enjoyed the day so much- there were wonderful photo opportunities all around the venue and the entire family was warm and welcoming. Seriously, if I didn't have a baby to get home to I would have stayed until the very end of the reception! I am so excited to share these images with you!

Hey there! My name is Erica Carter. I was born and raised here in Louisville, Kentucky. I am an English student at the University of Louisville, and I’m preparing to graduate with my bachelors degree in May 2010. My concentration areas are in journalism and creative writing. I feel that I express myself best through writing, and I keep my camera handy because I love capturing different moments. I love to play soccer, and dance (mainly jazz and modern) in my free time. Erin and David were married September 26th at the Rauch Planetarium and their reception followed at the Lake Forest Country Club. There was a threat of downpour the whole day, but it never rained a drop (that is, until the end of the night, when I was heading back to my car with all of my equipment!) We were so lucky to have been able to shoot portraits of the bride, groom and their families outdoors. The Planetarium has a neat courtyard and the country club has a beautiful lawn area right in front of the building. Not only was the weather gorgeous, but so were the bride and groom! Alicia and David are wonderful clients of mine. They just had to have me even though I was expecting Kate right around the same time of their wedding and wouldn't be able to shoot it. So, what did they do? What any sane person would-- they hired me to shoot their engagement portraits and their reception and found someone else to shoot the exchange of their vows. Of course, I know this complicated things and required them to find two photographers, but it also made me feel really special! They had a gorgeous reception at the Crowne Plaza for 400 of their closest friends/ family. Enjoy!

Allison and Al were married on 09.09.09 at Locust Grove. Despite the threat of rain, it turned out to be a beautiful day. It was a simple, elegant ceremony and there were 9 guests in attendance. Kate's First Nap in her Crib

Ok, ok... I must admit that Kate is certainly not lacking in the area of having photos taken. What can I say? I'm a proud mom and a photographer. I hope I can be there to document every one of her "firsts" as she grows. Yesterday, she took her first nap in her crib. Usually, she sleeps on my chest or occasionally in her co-sleeper (which is like a small bassinet that scoots up next to our bed.) Isn't she a chubby little doll?! By the way, she is over 13lbs now! She is growing like a weed!

My wonderful mom, affectionately now know as "Mimi," attended a Parents Behind the Lens course I taught back in May. She then agreed to take photos of our labor and delivery. This was a big task that many folks would have been nervous about, but she took it on! We are so thankful that we have the wonderful memories in photographs- Kate's birthday is by far the greatest day in our entire lives! I have put together a slideshow of those photos, along with a few of my own words to tell the story of how the day went. Luke and I will watch this with Kate every year on her birthday and tell her just how much her being here means to us!

The last few images were taken by me on her first day home, her first bath, and of course, the first time she sucked her thumb (9 days old!)

KATE’S BIRTH STORY

I was awakened by thunder and a scared dog, but mostly a scared dog. It was around 5:00 am on a Saturday morning. I had planned on going on a long bike ride around 7:00 am, like I had done every Saturday morning over the past few months in preparation for a triathlon in August. I was upset that the thunderstorm was going to keep me from going on my ride. I laid there in bed, unable to go back to sleep due to the constant whining from our dog, Julie. Around 6:30 am, I got up and checked the radar…sure enough; it looked like more rain was on the way. I decided to stay up and clean up some things around the house. Once the sun was up, I went out and did a tune-up on my bike. By the time I was done with that, it was around 8:30…and the rain hadn’t come. Another check of the radar revealed that the rain clouds had dissipated and it was going to be clear for the rest of the day.

Somewhat aggravated that I hadn’t gone on my ride earlier due to the threat of rain, I decided the cut the grass. I went back in to let Jessica know that I would be outside if she needed me. She was still in bed, trying to catch up on some sleep. After I cut the grass, I went back inside to plug in the extension cord so that I could trim the bushes. Jessica was sitting on the couch in the living room in her robe, fresh out of the shower. She said that she was having what she thought were contractions. I told her to not panic, and don’t bother timing them yet. We both knew that it was more than likely false labor since the due date was still 10 days away.

After trimming the bushes, I came in and hopped in the shower. Jessica was still having contractions, but she was able to walk and talk during them, so I knew it was nothing too serious yet. I asked her if she was hungry, thinking that if this was true labor, she would need nutrition for the long process that lay ahead. She said that she was starving and wanted some waffles. With a Waffle House just down the road, it was the obvious choice. I packed some towels for the ride just in case her water broke while we were in the car…it was a long shot, but I wanted to be prepared. We also drove Jessica’s car because it was the one with the car seat already installed…again, better safe than sorry!

While we were eating our waffles, I noticed that her contractions were now intense enough that she had to stop eating and really concentrate in order to stay relaxed. Without telling her, I began to look at my watch and note the time between contractions. They were pretty consistent around four minutes apart. While this wasn’t a reason to run to the hospital, I knew that with her having contractions now for close to 3 hours and them being consistent…we were going to have a baby way before the due date!

The plan was to stop and pick up a Father’s Day gift for my dad on the way back home. But before we even left Waffle House, Jessica became nauseous. So making any stops on the way home was out of the question. Once home, I tried to help Jessica relax as much as possible. Our Bradley Method childbirth training helped a lot. I was able to get her in the bed and keep her pretty relaxed during contractions for the next half hour or so. It was around 2:00 pm when I called our Bradley instructor, and Doula, Dori. I wanted to let her know what was going on and that we were more than likely going to have a baby at some point in the not too distant future. She was teaching a class until 2:30 pm, so she suggested that I run Jessica a warm bath to try and help her relax. With the candles lit, and her iPod playing James Taylor, she was able to relax a little more while in the bathtub. I sat on the toilet seat and massaged her legs, while singling along to “Carolina in My Mind”.

Contractions were now closer to three minutes apart, and were definitely more intense now. While Jessica was in the tub, it became clear that the Waffle House was a very bad idea! Let’s just say the waffle made another appearance. Jumping out of the tub to stick your face in the toilet is not a good way to relax! The vomiting caused Jessica to come completely out of her relaxation mindset and that’s when the pain really set in. My mind scrambled through all of the relaxation positions and techniques that we had practiced…squatting on the birthing ball, getting on all-fours, leading over the seat of a chair…we tried them all. Nothing was working!

By this time I was starting to panic, which is very rare for me. I made sure not to let Jessica know that I was nervous, but being unable to help her ease the pain was tough for me. I was her coach, the one that she was supposed to rely on for help…and I was out of options. I called Dori back to let her know that we were having trouble getting relaxed after all the vomiting. I was sitting on the bed next to Jessica while talking to Dori. I told her that the contractions were now averaging two and a half minutes apart and hard for Jessica to get through. While I was on the phone, Jessica had a contraction and Dori heard her in the background. After hearing Jessica and knowing what I had already told her, Dori canceled her plans to come over to the house and thought that we should go ahead and just meet her at the hospital.

With Jessica still wearing only her robe, and laying on the bed trying to get through the minute-long contractions that were only giving her a little over a minute of rest in between, getting her dressed and out to the car became quite a task. Having a little over 30 seconds of useful time between contractions, it took us half an hour to get in the car from the bedroom. By this time, it was around 3:30 pm and my nerves were shot. But we were on the way to the hospital, fighting Saturday afternoon traffic!

I felt very helpless while driving to the hospital. Jessica was having very painful contractions and still vomiting. There was nothing I could do except encourage her to breathe deeply and try to relax, which is next to impossible to do in a car seat while holding a Wal-Mart bag full of your own vomit! When we arrived at the hospital, Dori was there waiting outside the entrance to the Woman’s Pavilion at Norton Suburban Hospital. She took over my coaching duties while I ran inside to get a wheelchair for Jessica. When I got back down to the car, Jessica was standing outside the car, bent over with her head resting on her arms in the seat. The air conditioning in the car was on full-blast to try and combat the 90° heat.

By the time we got Jessica up to Triage, she was already dilated 6 cm. This is exactly what we hoped for. We were able to labor at home for a long time and didn’t get to the hospital too early. Our plan for a natural childbirth would have been much more difficult if we had arrived too early. I had to leave Jessica in Dori’s capable hands while I got her registered. I had called Becca and Mendy on the way to the hospital, and they arrived while I was getting her registered. I had Becca call my mom and dad to let them know that we were in labor!

When I met back up with Jessica and Dori in Triage, it was very hectic. One nurse was trying to get a monitor on Jessica to check the baby’s heartbeat, while another was trying to get an I.V. started in her hand. Without going into too much detail, let’s just say that our 15 minutes in that room seemed like an hour!
Once we were moved in the Labor and Delivery unit, things settled back down. Our nurse was named Joy (very appropriate name for a L&D nurse) and she was fabulous. She helped get Jessica comfortable as we continued to work though the contractions. With the lights dimmed and the iPod playing, Jessica was able to get some control back during contractions. She fought through these contractions for another few hours. I could tell that she was still in a lot of pain and with her now being 8 cm dilated, we had to make a decision on whether or not to get an epidural. Our plan all along had been to give birth completely natural without any pain medication, but I ultimately left the decision up to Jessica (as any husband should). Knowing that she would still have several more hours of labor, Jessica made the decision to get the epidural.

As I left the room for the anesthesiologist to put in the epidural, all my built up emotions came out in a flood of tears. It had been a long day and seeing Jessica in pain was really hard for me. She had done so well all day long and I was so proud of her, but I knew that she would now be able to truly relax for the first time in more than 8 hours.

While sitting in the waiting room with my parents, Becca, Mendy, Jerad and Grandma Pat I actually became excited for the first time. All my attention had been on helping Jessica all day and I hadn’t really had a chance to sit and think about what was actually happening…I was going to be a daddy! It was at this point that I realized we are going to have a baby before the end of the day!

After the anesthesiologist made a pin cushion out of Jessica’s back, I was allowed to go back into the room. Jessica was relaxed and was finally able to take a break and prepare for what we both knew was going to be an exciting, but tough next few hours. I kept a close eye on the E.K.G. machine, watching the baby and Jessica’s pulse rate, as well as Jessica’s blood pressure. Becca and Mendy were back in the room now along with Dori and me. Everyone was getting excited for what we knew was coming!

Another check around 8:30 pm reviled that Jessica had dilated to almost 10 cm…which means only one thing…it’s time to start pushing! Jessica said that she felt a little “stoned”, so she asked for the anesthesiologist to come back in and turn the epidural down. Before he could make it back in there, the doctor came in and it was go time! With me holding one leg and Becca, Dori and Mendy rotating on the other, I counted out loud to ten while Jessica pushed. Three sets of ten during each contraction then turned into four sets as Jessica gave the extra effort to bring our baby into the world.

After the epidural was turned down, Jessica could feel when a contraction was coming and was even telling us to get ready for her to push as one approached. Our obstetrician (Dr. Nett) had been out of town the previous week and we didn’t think that she would be able to deliver our baby. As Jessica began to push, she asked the on-call O.B. to call Dr. Nett and see if she was back in town. About half way through the pushing, we were told that Dr. Nett was on the way! This was a huge relief for both of us as we really loved and trusted Dr. Nett and wanted her to be the one in the delivery room.

I’ll never forget looking down and seeing a little head of hair crowning. It was the first glimpse of our child and it’s forever burned in my memory. A few more pushes from Jessica and then I was quickly ordered to get on a gown as it was time to catch the baby! I ran over and washed my hands quickly and threw on a blue gown. All of the sudden I felt like a doctor being rushing into surgery…it was kind of fun! I moved into position right next to Dr. Nett and had both hands extended ready to catch my baby. One more good push and out it came, into my waiting hands. I was the first person on earth to see and hold my new baby…what an awesome feeling! I was so completely in awe that it didn’t even dawn on me to look and see what the sex was. Dr. Nett yelled out, “It’s a girl!” I couldn’t believe it, Jessica and I had made a little girl!

As I handed Kate up to Jessica I remember my vision being blurred with tears of joy. What a beautiful moment, a true miracle from God. I healthy baby girl, brought into this world by the woman I love more than anything on earth.
My life was forever changed on that Saturday at the end of June in 2009. My heart just overflows with love for my beautiful wife and our new baby girl. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Jessica, Kate and I.

Well, our little Kate gave us a big surprise when she blessed us with her presence 10 days before her due date. Baby Birds in the Grape Vines

Luke is growing grapes again this year, and he made a discovery a couple of weeks ago while he was cutting the grass by the garden. Mama bird was sitting on the fence throwing a fit because he was too close to her eggs. Until then, he hadn't even noticed there was a nest!

Kathryn and Bradlee's Engagement Images, Love Story

Kathryn and Bradlee's engagement session was soooooo much fun!! They are such a sweet couple- stay tuned for their love story (Kathryn is going to send it soon.) We shot at Peterson and Grinstead, taking advantage of the cool brick street and the area around Barrett Middle School.

This session did, however, remind me of the reason I am not scheduling any sessions in June. Pregnancy is tough and it wears you out!! I was huffing and puffing by the end of the session, but it was well worth it- look how adorable they are!!

Here is their love story, as written by Kathryn: I think that it is so amazing to hear the stories of love at first sight. This however, is not how our story begins.

I suppose you could say that Bradlee and I met for the first time in second grade when we were placed in the very same classroom. Interestingly enough, neither he nor I remember each other at all. It was when we first began dating that his mother tried to embarrass him by showing off some baby pictures. My laughs and giggles were quickly silenced when I looked down in shock and saw myself standing in the front row of his class picture. Though our memory of that time together has slipped our mind I am afraid that the class picture will survive a lot longer. I am sure my mother had no idea that morning when she dressed me in a terrible little plaid outfit that it would be the first picture recording the life of myself and my future husband. Later in Elementary Bradlee moved away and he wouldn't return again until sophomore year.
Life went on for both of us and neither of us knew the other even existed. It is hard for me to describe to any of you who don't know, exactly how small Eastern High School really is. This truly is a school where everyone knows everyone and yet all of sophomore year our paths never crossed.

As I sit here and write this story I remember a time in my life that I wondered why we spent so much time in close proximity to each other before God allowed our lives to merge. As we have grown up together I think that I finally have a better understanding of why God might have used this timing. I think that God gave us some time to live our lives separately before He united us. I trust that the timing was right because each of us were able to have a good idea of who we were as individuals before we had to learn who we were as a couple. God knew what was best for us and I thank Him for his wisdom.

Ok, so back to our story. It wasn't until the first day of junior year that I met Bradlee. It was in Mrs. Gulley's sociology/psychology class that I first saw him in passing. I sat in the chair in front of him and barely noticed he was there for the first few weeks. Then, group projects required us to work with the people around us. We began "working together" on projects that I would do and Bradlee's name would go on. I didn't really mind though because life with this new friend was interesting. Bradlee was unlike the other people that I shared my time with. He had this little way of teasing and joking with anyone and everyone around him. Though he sometimes made me mad he usually made me smile and I always looked forward to seeing what the next day’s class would bring. One day, I jokingly asked him why he was always picking on me and from then on he would go out of his way to pretend to be nice to me, asking how my day was and what my weekend plans were. Little did he know that this was one of my favorite parts of the day. Through a series of little encounters here and there he won my eye, and my heart soon followed.

We began dating at the very end of junior year and originally thought it would be nothing serious. I guess that God had other plans for our life. Yes there have been some bumps in the road and sometimes we have veered a little bit off our original path but Bradlee is the love of my life and I am so happy to be apart of this journey forever.

A few months ago our relationship began yet another transition. Bradlee has always loved treating me like a princess so where did he want to take me on vacation? Disney World of course. His love for me is evident in every act he performs. Two days short of our three year anniversary we were walking through Disney at night and he asked me if we could go and get a picture in front of the castle. I said of course but instead of standing with his arms around me he hit one knee. With the Cinderella’s castle glowing pink and blue in the background and a crowd of people watching and cheering he said, “This is the place where dreams come true, so please make all of my dreams come true and marry me.” As tears poured down my face I said yes and kissed my prince. It was the most magical moment of my life. I will say it again and again, I am so blessed!
Before we transition from being engaged to being permanently joined as husband and wife, we will face one more big challenge. Bradlee will be leaving June 24th of this year to join the Navy. When he leaves I am going to have to say goodbye to my fiancé and my best friend for a while. Though the thought of him leaving is sometimes overwhelming we have faith. God has delivered us time and time again and with each lesson He has reminded us to look up and look to Him. That is exactly what we are going to do. In the summer of 2010 Bradlee and I will make the final transition to husband and wife but that will never mean that we are done growing together. I love him more than words can describe and somehow I am lucky enough that he feels the same. I want to thank you for allowing me to share our story with you and I ask you join me in praying for his safety and that God’s will be done in our lives as he leaves to join our military. Thanks again, and I hope you have a blessed day!

As many of you know, I do a lot of work with the Kids Center for Pediatric Therapies. It truly is a wonderful organization that NEVER turns away a family because of inability to pay!

Julia and Joseph are Hitched!

Parents behind the Lens is a workshop that I put on in order to teach parents to effectively use their cameras to capture all of those special moments when a professional isn’t around! I’ll talk about:

We have 2 gracious volunteers for live mini-shoots, so you can practice what you learn as well! I will be available for a question and answer session for 30 minutes after the workshop.

The cost of the workshop is $50 and a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit The K.I.D.S. Center. So come out and learn to capture your family's special moments and contribute to a great cause!

My husband, the Triathlete

I am so incredibly proud of my husband Luke! He finished 5th in his age division at the triathlon in Shelbyville on Sunday. Unlike his first triathlon, he actually gave himself plenty of time to train and it paid off! The bike portion was extremely tough (pretty much up and down hills the whole way) but he pulled through. Now, he is preparing for the mini-marathon and another triathlon in Indianapolis in August.

I had such a good time with the Ross's a couple of weeks ago shooting their family photos. Each family member has a unique personality that contributed to the success of the session, where we played in the backyard, blew some bubbles, read a couple of books, did some arts and crafts and rode bikes.

I am submitting an image this year for consideration on one of the covers of Professional Photographer, published by the Professional Photographers of America, which I am a member of. These images will be judged on technical aspects as well as how well it will fit into a magazine layout. I originally had another image in mind, but since I just shot several amazing sessions over the past few weeks, I changed my mind. I am down to two possibilities. For you to sort of imagine what it may look like, I imposed a comparable title and feature article, which is typically the layout of the cover. Volunteer Needed for Parents Behind the Lens Workshop!

I will be conducting a small workshop, Parents Behind the Lens, on Thursday, April 9th from 6:00-8:00 at the KIDS Center on Eastern Parkway. I need a volunteer to bring their child (or children) up to 5 years old for a live mini-shoot. We will bring toys or plan a small activity and allow the participants to practice what they have learned. If you volunteer for your kiddo(s) to be our subjects, I will make sure you get a disc of the images I take that night, as a special reward for you being so nice!

Two Wonderful Years of Marriage!

My mom and I went on a little photography adventure as part of an assignment for one of her classes. After showing her a few pointers, I let her loose with one of my cameras then went off on my own. I had never been to St. Martin of Tours or even heard of it before today but OH MY GOSH-- it is stunningly beautiful. You can just feel the presence of God in the place and the rich history is so powerful. If you have never had the opportunity to go, I would encourage you to do so, if only for the sake of being surrounded by pure beauty.

Boudoir Photos- Bringing Sexy Back!

I have recently had some interest, especially from brides, wanting to do for-his-eyes only photo shoots. These images can be made into really neat keepsake books for bride-to-be's to give to their grooms on the wedding day (not that he isn't excited enough about the wedding night!) So, my smokin' hot sister agreed to be my guinea pig for my first Boudoir Session. These are just a few sample images that I will add to my website later.
